Part II: Biden incredibly strong--pointed out Palin "I heard no plan" on Iraq, very strong on economic and FP issues.
Veep issue devastating for Palin--actually claimed broader powers for VP, clearly without knowing actual constitutional powers. Biden powerful on Cheney--dials way up.
And then...The turning point. The Biden tears. After that, Biden was most clear, passionate and strong, and from there, Palin was gibberish.
Biden win.

The issue here is that Palin came out a little better than Couric interviews. Nothing that is going to convert the independents.
Biden came off as strong and articulate. No one is switching sides from either persons performance.

Very well put, Sir! I have a question, though: How could Gov. Palin have allowed herself to appear on the same stage with Joe Biden? Should she have turned down John McCains choice of her? Does she realize that her appearance has likely done much more harm than good to their campaign?

I think she made her base feel ok about her. She calmed conservative writers. She did her job. She appeals to the idiocracy and that is about 45% of this country.
I don't think she did much to sway anyone though. Biden came off VPish, she came off that she can be a Mayor. But that's all they wanted.

Palin should get an A for effort - I can't fault her for trying; but she gets an F for substance. Biden is a clear winner.
One thing that scared me was her answer about DICK CHENEY! And... now I understand a little more about the troopergate scandal.

The conservatives are calling her a winner because she didn't make a complete ass of herself. She memorized her script as told and repeated it nicely. All the hilybilly gargon wasn't impressive even to us regular people and there are a lot of us who don't drink beer. For them she was sensational for me she was the same ole unimpressive. "Silly Sarah"
she's like - what? 13 yrs old? has anybody told her she isn't actually running for student body president or head of the cheerleading team?
in all seriousness tho - there is something poisonous to sarah palin. she comes across smiling, laughing, nodding and winking, throwing accessible phrases around till her listeners are knee deep in them. yet all the while she's trying to tear down, destroy, hate. there is a difference between intelligence and animal cunning, and she has the latter. for a woman who believes in creationism, she is the poster child for natural selection and survival of the fittest - kill or be killed. there is no sense of sharing a stage, no sense of bi-partisanship, no respect for opposition. just a sense of lurking in the swamps till her opponent turns so she can stab them in the back.
i liked her better when i just thought she was stupid, but it makes sense that her style of cheap aggression would appeal to mccain.
it's staggering to me that no psychologist, psychiatrist or medical professional in a relevant area has noted that john mccain came back from hanoi almost certainly suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. his inability to maintain/regain intimacy in his own marriage and the subsequent breakdown of relationship with his own children are part and parcel of PTSD for those who were long term POW's or hostages. thinking America should realize that placing a man with an enormous level of unresolved anger due to his own, very personal experience, is like putting a ticking time bomb in charge of international peace negotiations. he is incapable of objectivity, and his obvious anger, which runs just below the surface with him at all times, is part and parcel of his personal experiences. while these are to be pitied and respected, they should not blind a thinking American from seeing how dangerous this specific man would be in charge of any interactions with those from either communist, military, or perhaps asian countries. it's not possible to know exactly what his hot button personal triggers are, but it's a safe bet that he has them.

I am reading all the back posts on this wonderful blog. With the above replier, I also agree, especially noting McCain's obvious untreated and unchecked anger, no rage, be it from PTSD or other sources. Not the guy to lead this country. As for Palin, her absolute blindness to her own incompetence is staggering.
